Nevada Road Test Guide
What to bring, what your test vehicle needs, what the examiner is actually watching for, and what happens if you don't pass — summarized from DMV's own pages for Nevada and linked to the source.
Bring with you
- Valid instruction permit or existing license/ID card
- Proof of identity and proof of Nevada address
- Proof of registration and insurance for the test vehicle
Nevada vehicle check
DMV checks the car before the drive starts. Tick these off the night before — a vehicle that fails the check ends the appointment before you have driven anywhere.
What ends the Nevada road test immediately
Most mistakes cost you points you can afford to lose. These are different — a critical error ends the drive on the spot, however well the rest of it went:
- A collision, or contact with a curb, cone, or object
- The examiner had to grab the wheel, brake, or speak to prevent danger
- A dangerous or illegal maneuver
- A moving violation — speeding, running a light or stop sign
- Refusing to attempt a maneuver the examiner asked for
- Stalling somewhere that put the car in danger
Road tests share this list because each item is a safety failure rather than a scoring one. DMV publishes the rules that apply in Nevada — check the official source above before test day.
What the examiner checks
- Vehicle equipment check — registration, insurance, lights, horn, seat belts, tires, wipers
- Preparing to drive, vehicle control, entering traffic, lane use, speed control
- Turns, parking, backing up, stopping, passing, and attention to traffic situations
- May be asked to demonstrate stopping on a grade
The reviewed official source does not publish a fuller test-vehicle checklist. Only the specific requirements the state states are shown here.
Initial knowledge/skills test fee is $25; retest fee is $10, covering both written and drive retests. Passengers, animals, and interpreters are not allowed in the vehicle during the road test. Cell phone use during the test is an automatic failure, and driver-assist features (parking assist, cruise control, etc.) may not be used. The DMV states only that "you may need to wait up to 30 days to retest" (an appointment-availability caveat, not a mandated minimum) — no fixed minimum wait is published, so retestWaitDays is left unset rather than asserting an unsupported number.
