Wyoming Road Test Guide
What to bring, what your test vehicle needs, what the examiner is actually watching for, and what happens if you don't pass — summarized from WYDOT's own pages for Wyoming and linked to the source.
Bring with you
- Proof of Wyoming residency
Wyoming vehicle check
WYDOT checks the car before the drive starts. Tick these off the night before — a vehicle that fails the check ends the appointment before you have driven anywhere.
What ends the Wyoming road test immediately
Most mistakes cost you points you can afford to lose. These are different — a critical error ends the drive on the spot, however well the rest of it went:
- A collision, or contact with a curb, cone, or object
- The examiner had to grab the wheel, brake, or speak to prevent danger
- A dangerous or illegal maneuver
- A moving violation — speeding, running a light or stop sign
- Refusing to attempt a maneuver the examiner asked for
- Stalling somewhere that put the car in danger
Road tests share this list because each item is a safety failure rather than a scoring one. WYDOT publishes the rules that apply in Wyoming — check the official source above before test day.
What the examiner checks
- Driving through intersections
- Handling traffic lights
- Responding to a variety of situations in normal traffic
Most exam stations require the skills test to be scheduled in advance through oneWYO or by calling the local office. Failing to obey state law is an automatic failure. If you fail, the examiner decides how long you must wait before retesting — the WYDOT manual sets the minimum at 24 hours, and a longer wait usually means the examiner wants you to practice more. An interpreter is allowed on a non-CDL skills test. The skills test can be waived if you show a certification card for an approved driver education course, valid for no more than two years.

Have your supervising driver tick anything that went wrong on a practice drive. This is our practice sheet, not an official form — where the state publishes a real threshold it is in the scoring section above.
